“Here’s the other random observation- Mac App Store sales of VoodooPad and Acorn have been going down over the past couple of months, but direct sales have been going up. And I don’t know why. It’s the same price, and previously the trend had been in the opposite direction, but… well there it is. Are savvy users fed up with Sandbox issues? Will it bounce back the other way some day?”

“I know you are out there, gamers and science fiction readers. Even if you’re not an attorney, you can help. You can help by sending an email to Games Workshop telling them you won’t buy their products while they engage in meritless trademark bullying. (Edit: or communicate with them by their Twitter account, https://twitter.com/VoxCaster.) You can help by spreading this story — and getting others involved — on every gaming and science fiction blog and board and forum out there. Inflict upon Games Workshop the consequences of their actions.”

“
As I’ve tried to point out before, aggregation or curation is a fact of life in the digital age — just as record companies have had to learn to live with rampant downloading and sharing of music, publishers of all kinds are trying to get used to the idea that their content is no longer under their control. In some cases, aggregation fulfils a useful function, as it did in one notorious case involving a Forbes post by Kashmir Hill that was based on a New York Times feature. In other cases, the usefulness is debatable.
As Morrissey points out in his piece, until the financing model for online media involves something other than pure pageview-driven advertising revenue, aggregation is unlikely to stop. The only protection is to have content whose value can’t be summed up in a screenshot or a paragraph excerpt, and a relationship with your readers that is based on more than just how many pageviews you can generate.

“Text-based chatting platforms like Gchat can be convenient, but words alone can distort messages. “Yeah, thanks” often becomes “That’s fine, now buzz off.” Since you don’t have an audible tone of voice when chatting online, it’s important to be extra sensitive and complimentary when giving feedback. Says Mullenweg: “If you’re too short or curt, people generally assume the worst.””

Coding Horror: Civilized Discourse Construction Kit:
This is the part where I start playing sad trombone in my head. Because all your software options for online community are, quite frankly, terrible. Stack Exchange? We only do strict, focused Q&A there and you’d have to marshal your proposal through Area 51. Get Satisfaction, UserVoice, Desk, etcetera? Sorry, customer support isn’t the same as community. Mailing lists? Just awful.
Forum software? Maybe. Let’s see, it’s 2013, has forum software advanced at all in the last ten years?
He’s right, forum software still kinda sucks. Or really sucks. Nothing in the forum world matches what Stack Exchange does for Q&A. And they are still incredibly useful despite this with the right people in them. - What I Feed My Speedlites | PixSylated | Syl Arena's Photography Blog on Light & Imagemaking

If you want to transfer a few hundred gigabytes of data, it’s generally faster to FedEx a hard drive than to send the files over the internet. This isn’t a new idea—it’s often dubbed SneakerNet—and it’s how Google transfers large amounts of data internally.
But will it always be faster?

Keeping Coyotes in Phoenix is proving tough sell | Hockey:
“We will not be able to complete our purchase of the Phoenix Coyotes today in time to meet our deadline with the city of Glendale,” prospective owner Greg Jamison said Thursday in a statement. “However, our journey to purchase the Coyotes will continue.”
A while back I blogged that if anyone could fix the problem in Phoenix, Jamison could — but that I wasn’t sure even he could.I now think that some day, Jamison will look back on this and think “my god, I’m glad I dodged that disaster”, even though I’m sure right now he’s disappointed he couldn’t pull the financing together. And it’s time for the NHL to call it and move on, and get the Coyotes into a different city.I also feel for the folks of the City of Glendale, but ultimately, they put themselves into a lousy financial situation building an arena with financing on a house of cards, and now they’re paying for it. the hard way. That building should never have been built, and some of us felt that way even before they broke ground… - Judge upholds eviction of Drakes Bay Oyster Company | abc7news.com
